Prior to her passing in 2011, Amy Louie had a dream of one day establishing a fund to assist musician’s in their creative work. Her family, longtime proprietors of Grossman`s Tavern on Spadina Ave in Toronto have fulfilled that wish. Amy, a mother, with a full time career in real estate always found time for the family business and enjoyed the music, the musicians and the colorful cast of characters that can always be found at the loveable joint at Spadina and Cecil. She became a special person to everyone who got to know her.

The Amy Louie, Grossmans Music Scholarship strives to provide funding on a yearly basis for a musician, band or music project. The Responsibles received the scholarship in 2013 to help complete a recording project. In 2014 The Toronto Blues Society sanctioned Jerome Godboos participation at The International Blues Challenge in Memphis. ALGMS added the financial support and Jerome won The Lee Oskar Best Harmonica Player Award at IBC. Chloe Watkinson , Bad Luck Woman & Her Misfortunes and The Dan McKinnon Bandwere granted the scholarship in 2015, 2016, 2017 respectively and used the proceeds to complete recording projects. The Swingin Blackjacks picked up the prize in 2018 and following the tradition will host this years event.

The annual fund raising event is supported by musicians who began their journey in music at Grossmans and helps to restore the scholarship fund, insuring that it becomes a perpetual asset to the Toronto music community. The 2019 recipient of The Amy Louie Grossmans Music Scholarship will be announced at the fund raiser on Sept. 24th and will be added to the performance schedule.
