BC’s own Connor Nelson releases a NEW single entitled, Black.

May 12, 2022 Live Music

Connor Nelson’s music emits layers of pop with a hint of nostalgia. CN is known for his dreamy, sultry vocals and emotive vocal ability, and expressive lyrics, the young singer-songwriter writes music that is close to his heart, often inspired by personal experiences. Combining elements of R&B, synth, pop, dark pop, and electro-pop with alternative influences, Connor is a skilled artist who knows how to seamlessly merge seemingly opposing sounds that distinguish himself as a musician from a young age, and from the age of 15, where he won the Youth Talent Search BC in Port Moody in 2014 and made the top 4 in season 5 of The Shot. He broke out onto the world stage as a singer-songwriter in 2019, just a month shy of his high school graduation, with his debut single Psychic which garnered over 100K streams on Spotify in less than a year. Connor draws inspiration from the likes of Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Isaac Dunbar to name a few, and as of 2021, he received a diploma in music production, which has allowed him to sing, write, and produce almost all of his songs. Connor is currently collaborating with Juno-nominated producer Nathan Chiu and plans to release more singles in 2022. The Vancouver-born singer-songwriter uses music as a medium to connect to his feelings and hopes to deliver the message to his listeners that “it’s okay to feel and they are not alone in feeling their emotions.”

At just 21, Vancouver’s Connor Nelson has been making a name for himself both locally and across Canada, and The Nimbus Music School graduate regularly performs across his hometown, both opening for and alongside some of Canada’s most promising rising stars. His most recent collaboration was with emerging R&B artist Bukola on, Golden Hour, and his latest solo single, Psychic, has garnered over 100,000 streams on Spotify. Connor is gearing up to release his brand new single, Black, a song about the ever-dreaded lack of response, or ghosting in the dating world. Inspired by his personal experience with a disappearing potential partner, Connor’s song Black has just been released on Friday, April 29th.
Both written and performed by Connor himself, Black was mixed and mastered by Juno Award-nominated artist Nathan Chiu (Wayfie, Inja). Recorded at home, Black features a mid-tempo beat with R&B/pop influences and lush vocal harmonies.

Written from the devastating personal experience of liking someone who suddenly ends all communication, Connor Nelson’s Black shares the emotions and frustrations felt when one person has feelings for the other, who doesn’t feel the same way back. Titled “Black” as it alludes to the color of phone screens that are not lighting up with text messages, the song showcases Connor’s advanced lyric writing and vocal stylings, which include lush harmonies that compliment the electronic beat layered throughout the song. Dark-Pop with R&B elements, “Black” begins with an 80’s Pop synth and progresses into a modern, radio-friendly track with a melody that compliments the emotion of the song. Aiming to have listeners take in his lyrics, Connor’s self-written and self-produced track features his Pop styled vocals at the forefront, opting for an easy-to-follow beat to ensure that the message of the song makes it across to fans both old and new.

Citing a wide range of musical influences from Taylor Swift, to Lorde, and Isaac Dunbar, Connor Nelson has been a lifelong student of music who is able to seamlessly blend the elements of his favorite artists to create a sound all his own. With plans to release more music this year and perform live across Vancouver, Connor Nelson is an emerging Pop talent that is not to be missed!

“After getting left on read and subsequently being ghosted, I decided to get something out of it and write a song about the experience. Black, tells a story of longing and nostalgia, possesses a melody you can’t help but sing along to, and a midnight pop production with elements of electropop.” – Connor Nelson.
