‘It Is What It Is’ – NEW album drop for our Peterborough troubadour, the Patio Daddio, and the 2015 Wire Megazine Award Winning Wylie Harold (Blues Act of The Year).
“Hey, there Kiddo! How’s things in your Twilight Zone? ” Awesome, like you Wylie! Here’s a bit about our Peterborough Patio Daddio, Mr. Wylie Harold. He is known and adored for his dedication to his community of like-minded music makers and lovers and never ceases to amaze with his tantalizing covers and a stupendous flavor his sound exudes through his original Blues, R & B infused life stories, and many a couple tall tails! When talking shop today, Wylie had this to say about his upcoming new album release, “It turned out pretty sweet. I have some horns on a couple of songs, some killer female backup singers on one track, and a few especially talented friends left their mark on a couple of songs. It’s taken a long time, to say the least, to get here, but, it’s pretty close now.” Falling in love with music in his hometown of Scarborough at the ripe age of 8 years young, in 1964, the music bug and stage infatuation bit Wylie large. Next, “My mom said, ‘You’ve got to come see this, it was The Beatles’ first appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. I was mesmerized, enthralled, and captivated all at once. That was it. Something came over me and I knew, from that moment, that music would be it for me. After that, I picked up my mom’s guitar. I started picking at the chords for She Loves You,” shared Wylie.” At the ripe age of 15, his parents divorced and found himself residing at the family cottage in Bobcaygeon, where he truly honed his craft. Music didn’t pay the bills so Mr. Harold toiled at construction, carpentry, and landscaping. Come the early 1980s, he was a member of Half Ton, a “hard ass Southern rock” quintet. One memorable gig was at the Queen’s in Peterborough, playing alongside legendary English blues singer Long John Baldry, and while still a really young youth, he gigged regular performances at The Honky Tonk just outside of Peterborough where the owner Joe Aylward, gave him a job solidifying life long musical friends with active musicians like Andrew Affleck and John Crown. Keep Those Cards And Letters Coming, a country song penned by Mr. Harold, marked his first single, receiving radio airplay as far away as Europe. During the later 80s, post Honky Tonk and Half Ton, his directions switched gears and he was perfecting rhythm and blues, influenced by artists such as Sonny Brown, Terry and McGhee, and Johnny Winter. Fast forward to 2005, Wylie landed in Peterborough, with the Black Horse and the Rusty Snail being two of his regular haunts. Bands evolved with Mr, Harold in a lead role, among them The Bottoms Up Blues Band and Out On Bail, the world was his oyster, and the rest they say is history, as he has become a true entertainment splendor, a Peterborough staple, and a well-loved musical troubadour. Over Mr. Harold’s in-depth musical career, Wylie has become a household name in Ontario and there isn’t a Peterborough area stage, venue, bar, restaurant, festival, or backyard that this iconic musical gem hasn’t inhabited or set his amp and microphone stand upon. “No regrets. I’ve played with some terrific musicians and still do. I’m still doing what I’ve always loved to do. Who knows what tomorrow will bring but music will always be a part of my life in some way. That I know for sure,” shared Wylie. Out on Bail bandmates on this album includes Wayne O’Connor lead and rhythm guitar, John Climenhage on drums/percussion/backup vocals, Richard Simpkins on bass, and backup vocals, myself lead rhythm guitar/lead vocals/harmonica/percussion.
