ALEX CUBA comes to Peterborough’s Market Hall on Feb. 5th, BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!

January 19, 2023 Live Music

Grammy, JUNO, and Latin Grammy Award winning artist, Alex Cuba, is returning to Peterborough, ON to perform at Market Hall on Sunday, February 5 2023, after an exciting year that saw the artist receive his first Grammy, an honorary doctorate of laws degree from Queen’s University, and the Hagood Hardy Award from SOCAN. The show announcement comes fresh off the heels of Alex announcing a new single Quiero Quedarme out this February 10 2023, and his first venture into producing and releasing another artist on his nearly 20-year-old record label, Caracol Records.

“A master at conveying emotions through songs”  – Vancouver Sun

Cuban-Canadian artist Alex Cuba is an eclectic, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist with the profoundly rare ability to connect and communicate with audiences beyond the limitations of language. Alex’s solo shows offer his audience a heightened connection with the musician and an increased capacity to interact with the audience. Alex’s solo shows allow the artist to free his attention to share his engaging short stories, humour, and skillful musicianship with the crowd. His fingerpicking style of playing together with a carefully crafted setlist of songs that encompass a wide variety of genres from his entire discography, share the intimate as well as the engaging journey of melody, rhythm, and voice.

Though raised in Artemisa, an hour outside of Havana, Alex Cuba’s artistry is as far-flung as the place he has settled and lived for over fifteen years: Smithers, BC, 14 hours north of Vancouver. His music at once incorporates his roots and is a unique amalgam of styles, having collaborated with artists ranging from Jason Mraz to Ron Sexsmith and Nelly Furtado; and bringing together melodies, popsoul hooks and rock chords in songs that may seem to bear little resemblance to traditional Cuban form.

A forward-thinking, indie-minded artist, Alex has amassed a steadily growing following among critics and fans who has over 20 awards and nominations to his name, including 4 Latin Grammys, two Juno Awards and in 2022 brought home his first Grammy Award from a total of four career Grammy nominations.

On the heels of his highly successful 2022 album brand new album, Mendo.

Alex carries his Cuba within, incorporating subtle jazz influences, gained from his early years as a bass player in Cuba, and tasteful, sophisticated chords and lyrics expressing his poetry in an undeniably Cuban way. His growing body of work defines a unique musical place in the Latin diaspora.
