November 30, 2022 Live Music

Award-winning Canadian R&B/Soul artist Reeny Smith has just released her first ever Christmas EP, “Where You At Santa?”, on November 18 2022. The two time East Coast Music Award winner has also brought home a total of six Music Nova Scotia Awards, most recently winning African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year and Musician of the Year in November 2022. She also took home the Silver title from The Coast’s Best of Halifax 2022 in the Best R&B Artist/Band category. From features in the Toronto Star, CBC News, SOCAN Magazine, and reaching the Top 10 in CBC’s 2019 Searchlight competition, to her November 2022 appearance on Canada’s premiere entertainment television show, eTalk, Smith’s immense talent has also been noticed by some of of the biggest names in music, namely Anderson .Paak and Lisa Fischer – two artists the Nova Scotia-based artist has opened for throughout her career. With her remarkable talents as a singer, songwriter, and producer, Reeny has swiftly been making a name for herself as one of the top artists in the R&B/Soul genre in Canada today. Combining her roots as a choir singer in the Baptist church with her love of 90’s R&B and Soul, Smith’s powerful, rich vocals, musical craftsmanship, and captivating live performances have led her to become one of the most notable artists in her field. Coupled with her innate ability as a storyteller, Smith’s lyrics skillfully pivot between heartfelt, meaningful, and satirical with ease.
Three years in the making,

Reeny’s brand new Christmas EP, “Where You At Santa?” was first inspired by Hallmark’s annual “Christmas in July” series.

The heartfelt, compelling, and at times satirical collection of Christmas classics and originals showcase the artists’ profound talent, with the majority of the songs written, performed, and produced by Smith herself. WIth a modern take on some of her Christmas favourites and brand new songs that are sure to be contemporary classics, “Where You At Santa?” is a musical celebration of the holiday season and offers a delightful, modern, and memorable soundtrack for the upcoming holiday season and those beyond it.

.With title track “Where You At Santa?”, Smith seamlessly weaves Christmas magic into the groove of the upbeat, satirical, and soulful song, blending elements of Jazz, Soul, Ragtime, and R&B to implore Santa to stop by her house. Moving away from the common theme of keeping misbehaving children in line during the holidays, the artist cheekily confesses to being a mischievous adult who believes Santa should still be paying her a visit. Filled with stunning harmonies, out of this world vocal runs, and energetic instrumentation, “Where You At Santa?” is a perfectly textured and easily addictive modern Christmas tune.

Smith’s first Christmas EP also includes “Dear Santa”, a contemporary, refreshing, piano-Pop ode about feeling grateful during the holiday season. Exuding thankfulness and appreciation, Smith gently tells Santa “you can skip by my chimney, cause I have everything that I need”. On “Mall Santa”, Smith’s humour shines once again as she writes from the perspective of a volunteer Santa on the first day of his job. The upbeat, Hip-Hop infused Pop song celebrates those who take the time to put a smile on kids faces throughout the season. With her shimmering, moving rendition of “Silent Night”, Smith once again celebrates a meaningful Christmas classic with her seemingly effortless, soul-stirring harmonies.

Remarkably fresh, invigorating, and inspiring, Reeny Smith’s debut Christmas EP is a beautifully written and immaculately performed collection of songs dedicated to the artists’ favourite time of year. With talent and musicianship rarely seen in the industry today, “Where You At Santa?” perfectly blends contemporary sounds with Christmas staples to create a harmonious and joyful collection of songs that everyone can enjoy.
